Assembly Bill (AB) 195

Assembly Bill (AB) 195 revises provisions relating to pupils who are English learners (ELs), extending the rights of EL pupils and parents/guardians. Section 3 of the bill provides an overview of the rights. Additionally, school districts are required to collect and report data concerning ELs, aiming to enhance transparency and accountability in the provision of education to these students. Schools support the implementation of AB 195 by verifying the posting of EL pupil and parent/guardian rights in the fall of each year and by reporting EL participation in athletics and extracurricular activities in the spring of each year.
